A one-minute primer on the Indian number system
India counts big numbers in lakh (1,00,000 — a hundred thousand) and crore (1,00,00,000 — ten million). After the first thousand, digits group in pairs instead of threes, which is why ₹2.5 crore is written ₹2,50,00,000 in India and ₹25,000,000 everywhere else.
